Your adventure begins as you meet our guide and driver at Luang Prabang International Airport, followed by a comfortable transfer to your hotel for check-in. Your room will be ready from 14:00, offering a cozy retreat where you can unwind and recharge before immersing yourself in the UNESCO-listed charm of Luang Prabang. Spend your first afternoon wandering the quiet lanes of the Old Quarter, sipping coffee in a heritage café, or browsing the vibrant night market for handmade textiles and local delicacies.

NOTE: A surcharge applies for early check-in requests

Begin your day with a scenic cruise along the majestic Mekong River, heading upstream toward one of Laos’s most sacred spiritual sites: Pak Ou Caves. Perched high above the water where the Mekong meets the Nam Ou, this ancient cave sanctuary is home to Tham Ting and Tham Phum, two inner chambers filled with thousands of Buddha statues in every size and posture, placed by generations of pilgrims as symbols of faith and devotion.

Lunch is at your own expense.

This afternoon, enrich your cultural experience with visits to two riverside villages along the way:

  • At Ban Xang Hai, discover the age-old tradition of crafting Lao Lao, the local rice whiskey. See how it’s distilled, and sample this fiery spirit if you wish.
  • Continue to Ban Xang Khong, a village famous for its intricate Lao textiles woven on wooden looms and for the delicate art of Saa paper-making. This centuries-old craft uses mulberry bark and reflects a rich artisanal heritage.

As the sun begins its descent, enjoy a leisurely cruise back to Luang Prabang to return to your hotel and unwind after a culturally rich and soul-stirring day on the river.

Rise early to witness the morning alms-giving ceremony (Tak Bat), Laos’s sacred morning ritual, as saffron-robed monks move silently through Luang Prabang, receiving rice and offerings from locals and mindful travelers. For those wishing to participate, local vendors provide the essentials, including a Lao sash (sabai) and sticky rice. If you prefer to observe, please do so from a respectful distance and refrain from flash photography to preserve the sanctity of this centuries-old ritual.

After this peaceful beginning, dive into the rhythm of daily Lao life at the bustling morning market, where fragrant herbs, vibrant fruits, and chatter in multiple dialects offer a colorful portrait of the town’s living culture. Return to your hotel for breakfast.

Later, join a guided exploration of Luang Prabang’s spiritual and historical core, where ancient temples and royal legacies come together in timeless harmony.

  • Begin at Wat Sene, one of the oldest temples in the city, admired for its striking golden façade and serene atmosphere. From there, continue to Wat Xieng Thong, a masterpiece of Lao religious architecture, where sloping roofs and intricate carvings reflect a spiritual legacy. Be sure to admire the famous "Tree of Life" mosaic, a radiant glass mural that seems to shimmer with reverence and myth.
  • Your journey continues at the National Museum, formerly the Royal Palace, where royal regalia, religious relics, and historical artifacts offer deep insight into Laos’s noble past and cultural identity.

Lunch is by your arrangement.

Gain a sobering yet essential perspective at the UXO Lao Visitor Center. This powerful exhibition space sheds light on the devastating legacy of unexploded ordnance from decades of conflict, and the tireless efforts being made today to clear contaminated land and support local communities. Through poignant stories, short films, and personal artifacts, you’ll leave with a profound appreciation for the resilience of the Laotian people.

As daylight softens, climb the 328 steps to the top of Mount Phou Si, a sacred hill and the city’s most iconic sunset viewpoint. At the summit, a panoramic view unfolds: rivers weaving, gilded spires glowing in the dusk, and the spirit of Luang Prabang wrapping you in quiet wonder. It’s the perfect finale to a day filled with beauty, meaning, and discovery.

Travel to the countryside this morning for a truly hands-on experience at Kao Niaw Farm. Guided by local farmers, you’ll try traditional methods of planting rice or harvesting vegetables, depending on the season. Then enjoy a farm-cooked meal using ingredients fresh from the fields.

In the afternoon, cool off at Kuang Si Falls, walk forest paths, dip in blue pools, or simply sit back and admire the cascades.

Before reaching the falls, visit the Free the Bears Rescue Center, home to endangered moon bears saved from poachers.

Finish your day at Ban Na Ouane, a peaceful Hmong village tucked into the hills. Walk the dirt paths, meet local families, and learn about their unique clothing, language, and customs.

After a relaxed breakfast, check out and transfer to the station for your high-speed train ride to Vang Vieng. The journey takes under an hour and treats you to breathtaking views of northern Laos: jagged karsts, rice paddies, and countryside temples.

On arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy a slow-paced afternoon. Sip a fruit shake by the river, admire the golden hour over limestone cliffs, or take a quiet walk along the Nam Song.

This morning, paddle down the Nam Song River, gliding past karst peaks and riverside villages. The peaceful rhythm of the water offers a perfect way to immerse yourself in the landscape.

Visit Angel Cave, where you’ll walk into quiet limestone chambers, far from the outside world.

Optional: Add a zipline adventure (USD 20) for a bird’s-eye thrill across the treetops.

After lunch at a local eatery (own expense), board a small boat and cruise the Nam Song again, watch cliffs turn golden in the late sun as farmers head home and buffalo wade through the shallows.

Optional: Start your day with a hot air balloon ride (USD 100–200) to catch the sunrise over the valley—an unforgettable way to say goodbye to Vang Vieng.

After breakfast, take a gentle hike up to Nam Xay Viewpoint, where a bamboo hut and motorbike statue mark one of the best panoramic views in Laos.

By early afternoon, return by train to Luang Prabang. On arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a quiet final night in town.

Enjoy your final breakfast before transferring to the airport for your onward journey. We hope your time in Laos leaves you with more than just photos—but a sense of peace and wonder you’ll carry long after the trip ends.

Thanks to Mandy from Seni World Travel we had a wonderful trip to Vietnam.

Everything was so organised, communication was excellent and we got to see the best of everything that Vietnam has to offer.

Vietnam was a wonderful experience for both of us. Vietnamtour.co.za, and especially our travel expert Vanessa Dao, took care of the arrangements in a calm and professional way, which made the journey feel very manageable from the start. We liked how clear the communication was and how smoothly everything fell into place once we arrived.

The guides were pleasant, the pace suited us well and we always felt comfortable. It was the kind of holiday where we could simply enjoy ourselves without worrying about what came next. A memorable and very enjoyable trip.

We recently returned from our holiday in Vietnam and we are still talking about it every day. What stood out the most for us was how calm and effortless the entire trip felt. We are not fast travellers, so we really appreciated the clear schedules and the guidance we received at each stop.

One of the moments we enjoyed most was sitting at a small café in Hoi An, watching the lanterns come on while our guide showed us photos of his family. It was small things like that that made the whole trip feel warm and genuine. The accommodations were comfortable, the tours were organised with care and we always felt safe and relaxed.

The team at vietnamtour.co.za checked in now and then just to make sure we were happy, which we found very thoughtful. Vietnam surprised us in many wonderful ways and we left feeling rested and inspired. Thank you for a memorable experience.

My wife and I had a 12 day tour of Vietnam starting in Hanoi then flying to Hoi an and finally to Ho Chi Minh city. Vanessa Dao helped us choose the itinerary. and ensured that everything went smoothly. We usually plan our own trips but being in such a foreign environment decided to go with a tour operator and found it to be a more relaxed experience having free days interspersed between organised excursions. Vanessa was always available for good advice should we need this.
