Touch down in the peaceful capital of Laos, where a private guide and driver await to welcome you. After hotel check-in (available from 14:00), you’re free to rest or take a gentle walk through the tree-lined streets. Vientiane offers a slower pace, ideal after a long flight.

NOTE: A surcharge applies for early check-in requests

Start your morning by discovering the timeless charm of Vientiane through its most iconic historical landmarks:

  • Step into Vat Phra Keo, once the royal temple that housed the sacred Emerald Buddha. Today, it stands as a museum featuring exquisite Lao‑Khmer artworks.
  • Just nearby is Vat Sisaket, the city’s oldest remaining temple dating back to 1818, famed for its elegant Siamese-style cloisters and the thousands of tiny Buddha images lining its serene corridors.
  • Next, visit Pha That Luang, the nation’s most sacred monument, a golden stupa that has become a proud emblem of Lao identity and spirituality.
  • Conclude your city tour with a climb up the Patuxai Monument, often dubbed the “Arc de Triomphe” of Laos, offering sweeping views of Vientiane from the top, a unique fusion of colonial grandeur and Lao character.

In the afternoon, transfer to the station for your high-speed EMU Train journey to Luang Prabang (Train C82, departing at 13:30 and arriving at 15:40). Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel to check in and relax.

Rise early to witness the morning alms-giving ceremony (Tak Bat), Laos’s sacred morning ritual, as saffron-robed monks move silently through Luang Prabang, receiving rice and offerings from locals and mindful travelers. For those wishing to participate, local vendors provide the essentials, including a Lao sash (sabai) and sticky rice. If you prefer to observe, please do so from a respectful distance and refrain from flash photography to preserve the sanctity of this centuries-old ritual.

After this peaceful beginning, dive into the rhythm of daily Lao life at the bustling morning market, where fragrant herbs, vibrant fruits, and chatter in multiple dialects offer a colorful portrait of the town’s living culture. Return to your hotel for breakfast.

Later, join a guided exploration of Luang Prabang’s spiritual and historical core, where ancient temples and royal legacies come together in timeless harmony.

  • Begin at Wat Sene, one of the oldest temples in the city, admired for its striking golden façade and serene atmosphere. From there, continue to Wat Xieng Thong, a masterpiece of Lao religious architecture, where sloping roofs and intricate carvings reflect a spiritual legacy. Be sure to admire the famous "Tree of Life" mosaic, a radiant glass mural that seems to shimmer with reverence and myth.
  • Your journey continues at the National Museum, formerly the Royal Palace, where royal regalia, religious relics, and historical artifacts offer deep insight into Laos’s noble past and cultural identity.

Lunch is by your arrangement.

Gain a sobering yet essential perspective at the UXO Lao Visitor Center. This powerful exhibition space sheds light on the devastating legacy of unexploded ordnance from decades of conflict, and the tireless efforts being made today to clear contaminated land and support local communities. Through poignant stories, short films, and personal artifacts, you’ll leave with a profound appreciation for the resilience of the Laotian people.

As daylight softens, climb the 328 steps to the top of Mount Phou Si, a sacred hill and the city’s most iconic sunset viewpoint. At the summit, a panoramic view unfolds: rivers weaving, gilded spires glowing in the dusk, and the spirit of Luang Prabang wrapping you in quiet wonder. It’s the perfect finale to a day filled with beauty, meaning, and discovery.

Begin your day with a scenic cruise along the majestic Mekong River, heading upstream toward one of Laos’s most sacred spiritual sites: Pak Ou Caves. Perched high above the water where the Mekong meets the Nam Ou, this ancient cave sanctuary is home to Tham Ting and Tham Phum, two inner chambers filled with thousands of Buddha statues in every size and posture, placed by generations of pilgrims as symbols of faith and devotion.

Lunch is at your own expense.

This afternoon, enrich your cultural experience with visits to two riverside villages along the way:

  • At Ban Xang Hai, discover the age-old tradition of crafting Lao Lao, the local rice whiskey. See how it’s distilled, and sample this fiery spirit if you wish.
  • Continue to Ban Xang Khong, a village famous for its intricate Lao textiles woven on wooden looms and for the delicate art of Saa paper-making. This centuries-old craft uses mulberry bark and reflects a rich artisanal heritage.

As the sun begins its descent, enjoy a leisurely cruise back to Luang Prabang to return to your hotel and unwind after a culturally rich and soul-stirring day on the river.

Embrace the slow pace of village life this morning at Kao Niaw Organic Farm, just a short drive away, where farming traditions are passed from hand to hand and heart to heart. Depending on the season, roll up your sleeves and join in rice planting, vegetable harvesting, or tending to the fields, age-old practices that connect you with the heart of rural Laos. It’s an enriching, down-to-earth experience that blends learning, laughter, and cultural connection.

Reward your farming efforts with a delicious farm-to-table lunch, lovingly prepared from fresh ingredients gathered straight from the garden.

Refreshed and recharged, your journey continues to the iconic Kuang Si Waterfalls, where cool mist and cascading turquoise waters invite you to take in the serenity. Wander through shaded forest trails, dip your toes into crystalline pools, or admire the mesmerizing beauty of this natural wonder that stirs the soul with every step.

Before reaching the falls, make a meaningful stop at the Free the Bears Rescue Center, a sanctuary dedicated to protecting endangered Asiatic black bears. Hear their stories, conservation efforts, and how this project is helping preserve wildlife in Laos.

OPTIONAL: For thrill-seekers, soar above the jungle on the Kuang Si Zipline (USD 25/pax), with five exhilarating lines ranging from 130 m to 352 m. Feel the adrenaline and freedom as you glide past treetops and waterfalls in a truly unforgettable experience.

Drive back to Luang Prabang with your heart full and your camera roll rich with moments of culture, nature, and quiet adventure.

Savor your final morning in Luang Prabang with a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, soaking in the last glimpses of this timeless town. Depending on your flight schedule, your private driver will escort you to Luang Prabang International Airport for your onward journey. As your time in Laos comes to an end, we hope the memories you’ve gathered will stay with you for years to come. Note: Your room is available until noon. Meals today are not included.

Wow wow wow! It was an absolutely amazing trip! I cannot recommend this company highly enough! It was our first time to Asia and it was incredible! From the first communication I had when we started planning our trip 6 month's prior to going to the end (and even afterwards) it was absolutely brilliant! Everything was so meticulously planned and executed and nothing was too much to ask! From the planning stages to the actual tour every question or query was rapidly answered without hesitation and with such friendliness and helpfulness! A HUGE thank you must go to Trang and Lyn for creating and executing our trip with such professionalism, dedication, friendliness and helpfulness - it was an utter joy dealing with them! I can a 100 % say that it is the best service I have EVER received!!! Vietnam and its people were breathtaking! This was also a very special and personal trip for us and Trang and Lyn made sure that it felt so special! They went above and beyond to make it special and we truly felt cared for and not just a number. Every day trip was excellent with great tour guides and everything was always on time - even the transfers and pick up guides were fantastic! We did not have to worry about a thing and could only enjoy ourselves! The hotels chosen were great and centrally located! I honestly cannot fault anything except that I wish more people and companies could learn the work ethic, responsibility and dedication that Trang and Lyn have shown! The communication with Trang and Lyn keeping us updated and just checking in on us were exceptional! We will truly never forget Trang and Lyn and our fabulous trip of a lifetime to Vietnam! Thank you, thank you, thank you again for making this trip so memorable and truly a trip of a lifetime!!! Will for sure recommend you to all family and friends and definitely use you again if we are fortunate enough to visit Vietnam again!!!

Vietnam's weather differs greatly from region to region.  Depending on where and when you're going to visit, make sure you prepare for the weather before you go.

North: Best time to visit is during spring (from February and April) and autumn (from September to November). The temperatures are more moderate with lighter rainfall

Central: Best time to visit is between January and August when the weather is dry with no heavy rains

South: The best time to visit the region is during the dry season, between December and April when the city experiences warm weather without rain showers.

If you're planning to visit the whole country, it is possible to travel to any part of Vietnam during any season.

A Response from Seni World 06/12/2018

Depending on your place of choice and your interest, the duration could be varied. Normally, for first- time travelers, it will take you about 10- 14 days to discover the must-see attractions throughout Vietnam.

A Response from Seni World 22/12/2018

There are two available methods for passport holders from South Africa to choose to apply for a visa to Vietnam. You can either apply for your visa at the local embassy or obtain a visa on arrival with a visa letter.

You need to have a passport which is effective for at least 6 months beyond arrival date, 2 photos 4x6 and 2 blank pages on it for visa stamp (which costs 25$) and a visa letter. When you book tours with vietnamtour.co.za, we will offer a visa letter for free.

A Response from Seni World 03/11/2018

Our price doesn't consist of international flight tickets. If you have any problem in finding international flight tickets, we could book them for you.
