Welcome to Hanoi, the vibrant capital of Vietnam. Upon your arrival at the airport, our friendly guide and driver will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in the city center for check-in, with your room available from 2 PM.

The rest of the day is yours to explore the city at your own pace, discovering its charm and bustling streets until it’s time for your evening adventure.

Around 6 PM, begin your culinary journey through Hanoi’s lively streets. The city’s street food scene offers an enticing mix of fresh and flavorful dishes that reflect its rich culinary heritage. Must-try favorites include pho, a comforting noodle soup with beef or chicken; bun cha, featuring grilled pork with noodles and dipping sauce; and banh mi, the iconic Vietnamese sandwich. For those with a sweet tooth, che, a delightful dessert soup, and goi cuon, fresh spring rolls, are perfect choices. Visiting street food stalls allows you to savor authentic flavors while soaking in the lively local atmosphere.

Please note that alternative dishes may be served depending on restaurant availability.

From 08:00 - 08:30 AM, our tour guide and bus arrive at your hotel, marking the start of an unforgettable day exploring Hanoi.

The morning unfolds at the Ho Chi Minh Complex, where you pay a visit to the Mausoleum of Vietnam’s revered leader. You can admire the peaceful gardens, step into the simple stilt houses he once lived in, and admire the One Pillar Pagoda, an architectural gem dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy.

Note: Proper dress covering shoulders and knees is required. The Mausoleum closes on Mondays, Fridays, and from June 15 to August 15 each year, though the area remains open for photos.

Next, your guide leads you to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. Here, vivid exhibitions highlight the diverse heritage of 54 ethnic groups. (On Mondays, the Women’s Museum is visited instead.)

By lunchtime, you sit down at a local restaurant to enjoy authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Vegetarian options are available upon request, ensuring a meal that suits everyone’s taste.

The afternoon begins at Tran Quoc Pagoda on West Lake. Standing on Golden Fish Island, this 6th-century pagoda exudes serenity and history. Soon after, you continue to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, where courtyards, pavilions, and stone steles honor generations of scholars.

Later, you enter Hoa Lo Prison, known in the colonial period as “Maison Centrale.” Today, its exhibits reveal powerful stories of struggle, resilience, and independence.

By 16:30, the bus brings you back to your hotel, giving you time to relax before check-out. Dinner is on your own.

As the evening settles, at 21:00, your driver picks you up for the transfer to Hanoi Station. Boarding the Chapa Express overnight train to Lao Cai (22:00 - 06:00), you settle into a shared four-berth cabin. The rhythmic sound of the train accompanies you into the night, carrying you northward to the mountains of Sapa.

You arrive early at Lao Cai Station, where your local guide is waiting. After breakfast in the station's VIP lounge, a thirty-kilometre drive brings you up to Sapa town.

Leaving your luggage at reception, set out with your guide for a short transfer to Cat Cat Village, then follow the path downhill, pausing at a waterfall and a hydro-power station before continuing along a trail through terraced rice paddies. Walking beside a narrow river, you arrive at Y Linh Ho, a village of the Black H'mong community, where lunch is served by the water.

In the afternoon, head into the Muong Hoa Valley, passing through the villages of Lao Chai and Ta Van along a popular trekking route, before returning to Sapa by car. Dinner is on your own.

After breakfast, set out for the ascent of Fansipan, at 3,143 metres, the highest point in Indochina.

The journey begins aboard the Muong Hoa mountain train, which runs the length of the valley below. From there you transfer to the cable car, rising over clouds and terraced fields to reach the peak and its spiritual complex.

Descend a local lunch to celebrate the climb. The rest of the day is free at leisure — stroll around Sapa Lake, visit the Stone Church, browse for handicrafts, or relax at a café overlooking the misty valley.

Enjoy breakfast and some free time in Sapa before your limousine transfers to Hanoi through the scenic mountain landscapes and countryside of the north.

On arrival, check in to your hotel, with the rest of the day at leisure — explore the Old Quarter, visit local cafés and boutiques, or sample Hanoi's famous street food.

After enjoying breakfast and checking out of your hotel in Hanoi, embark on a scenic 2.5-3-hour drive through the countryside to Halong Port. Upon arrival, the cruise team will welcome you warmly with refreshing drinks before you step aboard. Soon after, a freshly prepared lunch is served as your vessel glides into the emerald waters, surrounded by Halong Bay’s towering limestone cliffs.

The afternoon brings a variety of activities, from exploring hidden corners of the bay to simply relaxing on deck and taking in the awe-inspiring views. As the sun begins to set, retreat to the sundeck or your private cabin before gathering for a delicious dinner onboard. When night falls, sink into the tranquility of your cabin, cherishing the unique experience of sleeping on the bay.

As the first rays of sunlight kiss the emerald waters of Ha Long Bay, you awaken to a tranquil morning and a leisurely breakfast on deck. The cruise gently carries you past mystical limestone islets, their timeless beauty unfolding before your eyes like a living painting.

After a warm farewell brunch, you disembark and return to Hanoi, your heart still lingering with the magic of the bay. The afternoon is free for you to relax until it’s time to board your flight to Da Nang.

Upon landing, a friendly driver awaits to escort you to your hotel in Hoi An. The evening is yours to wander the lantern-lit streets, soak in the old-world charm, and let the town’s gentle rhythm embrace you.

saigon to hanoi tour

Your culinary adventure begins at a local market, where you move among the stalls, meet the vendors, and learn how fresh ingredients are chosen for a Vietnamese kitchen.

Continue to Cam Thanh Coconut Jungle and board a traditional bamboo basket boat through the peaceful waterways among the nipa palms, discovering the local ecosystem and trying traditional fishing techniques, including catching purple crabs in the canals.

Afterwards, join a hands-on cooking class, preparing four traditional dishes under the guidance of a local chef before sitting down to enjoy them. Take home a collection of recipes as a souvenir before returning to your hotel.

Note: vegetarian options and other dietary requirements can be accommodated on request.

Your adventure begins with a hotel pickup at 7:30 AM, followed by a breathtaking cable car ride up to Ba Na Hills. As you glide above the lush forests, sweeping views of Da Nang’s coastline unfold beneath you - a perfect start to the day.

At the summit, marvel at the world-famous Golden Bridge, stroll through the romantic Le Jardin D’Amour gardens, and find a moment of peace at the tranquil Linh Ung Pagoda. Another scenic cable car ride takes you higher, where the enchanting French Village awaits. With its cobblestone streets, lively street music, artistic sculptures, and vibrant carnival shows, it feels like stepping into Europe.

After enjoying a delicious buffet lunch, hop on the Lava Train to explore new attractions such as the majestic Helios Waterfall and the mystical Moon Kingdom. The excitement continues at Fantasy Park, filled with diverse games and thrilling rides for all ages.

As the day winds down, descend by cable car once more and relax on a comfortable minivan ride back to your hotel in Da Nang, arriving around 5:00 PM with memories of a truly magical day.

This morning you leave the city by private vehicle for the tunnel network of Cu Chi. Covering almost 250 kilometres, this extraordinary system sheltered more than 16,000 Vietcong guerrillas. Begun in 1948 as protection against French air and ground sweeps, it went on to serve as communication routes, storage, hospitals, and living quarters throughout the American war. If you are willing, you can descend into the tunnels yourself and get some sense of the conditions faced by those who lived there.

You return to the city centre in the early afternoon, with the rest of the day free. An optional evening cruise on the Saigon River is available, with dinner served on board as the city skyline drifts past.

Arriving at Ben Tre Pier, board a boat along the Ben Tre River, a tributary of the Mekong, winding past mangroves from town to countryside amid the morning bustle of fishing and coconut cargo boats. Stop at traditional brickworks to see bricks made by hand, then turn onto the Cai Son Canal through coconut jungle to visit a coconut workshop and watch each stage of processing by hand.

Continue by small waterway to a rice paper and coconut candy workshop, sampling sweets and fruit to the sound of local music, then walk to a farmer's house to see sleeping mats being woven. Ride a tuk-tuk through the coconut groves, continue by rowing boat along a shady palm-lined canal, and stop for lunch at the Xu Dua riverside restaurant before returning to Ben Tre pier by motorboat.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel before bidding farewell to Vietnam. Depending on your flight schedule, our driver will be ready to transfer you to the International Airport for your journey home or onward adventure. Please note that your room is available until noon. Meals are on your own.

With that, we conclude our services, thank you for traveling with us, and may your trip home be as smooth and pleasant as the memories you take with you.

Thanks to Mandy from Seni World Travel we had a wonderful trip to Vietnam.

Everything was so organised, communication was excellent and we got to see the best of everything that Vietnam has to offer.

Vietnam was a wonderful experience for both of us. Vietnamtour.co.za, and especially our travel expert Vanessa Dao, took care of the arrangements in a calm and professional way, which made the journey feel very manageable from the start. We liked how clear the communication was and how smoothly everything fell into place once we arrived.

The guides were pleasant, the pace suited us well and we always felt comfortable. It was the kind of holiday where we could simply enjoy ourselves without worrying about what came next. A memorable and very enjoyable trip.

We recently returned from our holiday in Vietnam and we are still talking about it every day. What stood out the most for us was how calm and effortless the entire trip felt. We are not fast travellers, so we really appreciated the clear schedules and the guidance we received at each stop.

One of the moments we enjoyed most was sitting at a small café in Hoi An, watching the lanterns come on while our guide showed us photos of his family. It was small things like that that made the whole trip feel warm and genuine. The accommodations were comfortable, the tours were organised with care and we always felt safe and relaxed.

The team at vietnamtour.co.za checked in now and then just to make sure we were happy, which we found very thoughtful. Vietnam surprised us in many wonderful ways and we left feeling rested and inspired. Thank you for a memorable experience.

My wife and I had a 12 day tour of Vietnam starting in Hanoi then flying to Hoi an and finally to Ho Chi Minh city. Vanessa Dao helped us choose the itinerary. and ensured that everything went smoothly. We usually plan our own trips but being in such a foreign environment decided to go with a tour operator and found it to be a more relaxed experience having free days interspersed between organised excursions. Vanessa was always available for good advice should we need this.
