Welcome to Hanoi, the charming capital of Vietnam, where centuries-old traditions blend easily with modern life.
On arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is at leisure for the family to relax after the flight or take a first wander through the city’s vibrant streets together.
Optional this evening - The Quintessence of Tonkin Show: a spectacular open-air performance bringing the music, dance, and folklore of Northern Vietnam to life on a water stage.
Overnight in Hanoi.
Accommodation: MK Premier Boutique Hotel
This morning, the family hops on the back of a vintage Vespa for an unforgettable ride through Hanoi - plunging into the city’s busy, chaotic traffic in a way you’ll never forget. It’s an experience teenagers love, and a brilliant way to see the real city.
Weave through the bustling streets and narrow alleys of the Old Quarter, pausing for photos of atmospheric old lanes and landmarks like the Central Cathedral, the Opera House, Dong Xuan Market, and Long Bien Bridge. Learn to make the city’s signature egg coffee, ride out to the famous Train Street, and visit Hoa Lo Prison and the Temple of Literature.
Between the rides, stop to taste Hanoi’s street food hidden in the back alleys - bun cha, banh goi, banh tom, and more - before the tour returns you to your hotel.

At around 8:00 AM, your private guide collects the family for the scenic drive to Ninh Binh Province, about 120 kilometres south of Hanoi.
Begin at Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, the first capital of Vietnam, where the beautifully preserved temples of King Dinh and King Le, built in the 17th century, bring the country’s early history to life. Enjoy a gentle 45-minute cycle through the countryside to meet local village life, followed by lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, board a sampan through Trang An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a “Kong: Skull Island” filming location, drifting among green rivers and caves such as Sang Cave, Toi Cave, and Nau Ruou Cave. Then comes a challenge the teenagers will love: climb the nearly 500 steps of Mua Cave (the “Dancing Cave”) to the top of Lying Dragon Mountain for a breathtaking panorama over Tam Coc, before returning to Hanoi in the evening.
Please note: the guide may adjust the itinerary depending on weather conditions.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Halong Bay is the jewel of northern Vietnam, famous for its thousands of dramatic limestone islands rising from emerald waters.
Around midday, after a scenic drive through the rice fields of the Red River Delta, arrive at the pier and board your cruise with a welcome drink and briefing. Settle into your cabins over lunch as the ship heads out among the jungle-clad karsts and hidden caves.
Through the afternoon, the family can kayak among the limestone cliffs or climb to the sundeck for a panoramic view, before the cruise anchors in a quiet spot. Gather on deck as the scenery glows at dusk, followed by dinner on board and an easy evening together — games, a film, or squid fishing off the deck after dark, always a favorite with the teens.

This morning, your private guide and driver will take the family to explore the highlights of Ho Chi Minh City, beginning at the Independence Palace (the Reunification Palace), designed by architect Ngo Viet Thu. Pass the French colonial landmarks nearby — the Notre Dame Cathedral and the historic Central Post Office — then the War Remnants Museum, with its extensive displays from both Indochina wars.
After lunch at a local restaurant, head out to the Cu Chi Tunnels, about an hour and a half away. A short film sets the scene before the family explores the maze-like network of living quarters, kitchens, storage rooms, weapons workshops, and field hospitals, threaded with hidden trap doors - older kids and teens can even crawl through the tunnels to sense how people lived underground.
Afterwards, sample the tea and cassava once eaten by guerrillas, with time to relax or try the shooting range, before returning to the city.

This morning, travel to Ben Tre and board a boat along the river, a tributary of the Mekong, winding past mangroves amid the morning bustle of fishing and coconut cargo boats. Stop at traditional brickworks to see bricks made by hand, then turn onto the Cai Son Canal through coconut jungle to visit a coconut workshop.
Continue to a rice paper and coconut candy workshop, where the family can watch candy made by hand, taste the sweets and fresh fruit, and enjoy some local music. Visit a farmer’s house to see sleeping mats being woven, ride a tuk-tuk through the coconut groves, then take a rowing boat along a shady palm-lined canal and stop for lunch at a riverside restaurant before returning to Ho Chi Minh City.

Thanks to Mandy from Seni World Travel we had a wonderful trip to Vietnam.
Everything was so organised, communication was excellent and we got to see the best of everything that Vietnam has to offer.
Airport pick-ups and drop-offs were a breeze and meeting Mandy in person was an absolute delight.

Vietnam was a wonderful experience for both of us. Vietnamtour.co.za, and especially our travel expert Vanessa Dao, took care of the arrangements in a calm and professional way, which made the journey feel very manageable from the start. We liked how clear the communication was and how smoothly everything fell into place once we arrived.
The guides were pleasant, the pace suited us well and we always felt comfortable. It was the kind of holiday where we could simply enjoy ourselves without worrying about what came next. A memorable and very enjoyable trip.
We recently returned from our holiday in Vietnam and we are still talking about it every day. What stood out the most for us was how calm and effortless the entire trip felt. We are not fast travellers, so we really appreciated the clear schedules and the guidance we received at each stop.
One of the moments we enjoyed most was sitting at a small café in Hoi An, watching the lanterns come on while our guide showed us photos of his family. It was small things like that that made the whole trip feel warm and genuine. The accommodations were comfortable, the tours were organised with care and we always felt safe and relaxed.
The team at vietnamtour.co.za checked in now and then just to make sure we were happy, which we found very thoughtful. Vietnam surprised us in many wonderful ways and we left feeling rested and inspired. Thank you for a memorable experience.

My wife and I had a 12 day tour of Vietnam starting in Hanoi then flying to Hoi an and finally to Ho Chi Minh city. Vanessa Dao helped us choose the itinerary. and ensured that everything went smoothly. We usually plan our own trips but being in such a foreign environment decided to go with a tour operator and found it to be a more relaxed experience having free days interspersed between organised excursions. Vanessa was always available for good advice should we need this.
Bring USD for exchange or withdraw Vietnamese Dong (VND) from ATMs on arrival. Credit cards are accepted in cities, but cash is preferred at markets and local shops. We advise avoiding South African Rand as banks in Vietnam do not exchange ZAR.
We use carefully selected 3 - 4 - 5 star hotels depending on your package. All hotels are centrally located and traveller-friendly. Upgrades and special requests (sea-view rooms, connecting rooms) are available.
