Upon arrival in Chiang Rai, you will meet your guide and transfer comfortably to the city center for check-in. Known for its stunning temples, scenic mountain landscapes, and rich local culture, Chiang Rai offers a more peaceful and charming atmosphere in northern Thailand.

In the afternoon, a tuk-tuk ride introduces the town in a fun and easygoing way. As the journey passes through quiet streets, local markets, and small temples, the relaxed atmosphere of northern Thailand becomes immediately clear.

In the evening, the night bazaar offers a lively yet approachable setting. Here, local food, handicrafts, and street performances create a social and enjoyable environment, perfect for easing into the trip.

Overnight in Chiang Rai.

After breakfast, the day unfolds with a scenic drive through northern Thailand’s countryside.

At Choui Fong Tea Plantation, rolling green hills and fresh air create a peaceful setting, while the views provide excellent photo opportunities. The experience combines relaxation with a glimpse into local tea production.

The journey continues to the infamous Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet along the Mekong River. Once renowned for centuries as the center of the opium trade, the region today offers a fascinating blend of history, culture, and scenic river landscapes.

Return to Chiang Rai in the afternoon, leaving time to relax or explore further.

Overnight in Chiang Rai.

Today’s exploration highlights the artistic and spiritual identity of Chiang Rai.

At Wat Huay Pla Kang, the giant white statue creates a striking and memorable view. The atmosphere feels open and peaceful, making it a great start to the day.

The visit to Baan Dam Museum (Black House) introduces a more unusual side of Thai culture, where traditional northern Thai architecture blends with symbolic artwork and contemporary design, creating a distinctive and thought-provoking atmosphere.

The experience continues at Wat Rong Khun (the White Temple), one of Thailand’s most iconic and visually striking landmarks. Located just outside Chiang Rai, this dazzling white temple is admired for its intricate details, symbolic artwork, and blend of traditional Buddhist architecture with contemporary artistic design.

Return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Overnight in Chiang Rai.

After breakfast, travel by road to Chiang Mai, a destination known for its cultural richness and relaxed vibe.

Upon arrival, a visit to Wat Umong offers a peaceful contrast, with shaded pathways and ancient tunnels hidden within a lush forest setting. Dating back more than 700 years, Wat Umong is considered one of the oldest temples in Thailand and the oldest surviving temple in Chiang Mai, admired for its tranquil atmosphere, weathered architecture, and unique location surrounded by 15 acres of dense greenery at the foothills of Suthep Mountain.

The remainder of the day is free, allowing time to relax, explore the old town, or enjoy a casual evening in the city.

Overnight in Chiang Mai.

This day brings a meaningful and enjoyable wildlife experience.

At the elephant sanctuary, rescued elephants live in a natural environment, where conservation and care are the main focus. Observing their behavior and learning about their history adds depth to the visit.

During your visit, you may have the opportunity to feed the elephants and walk alongside them, creating a fun and engaging highlight of your journey. A local lunch is served before returning to Chiang Mai.

Overnight in Chiang Mai.

The day begins with a visit to Doi Suthep, where panoramic views over the city create a rewarding experience. Built in 1383 atop a mountain rising 1,676 meters above sea level, this sacred temple is considered the spiritual symbol of Chiang Mai, renowned for its revered Buddha relic, magnificent golden chedi, and breathtaking views across the city and surrounding countryside.

A soft trekking route follows, featuring the climb of 309 steps leading up to the temple, where beautifully decorated naga staircases guide you through peaceful surroundings toward the sacred grounds of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. This part of the journey adds a more active and immersive element, while still remaining accessible and enjoyable.

In the evening, a night food tour introduces northern Thai cuisine in a lively market setting, combining flavors with a social atmosphere.

Overnight in Chiang Mai.

After breakfast, travel toward Sukhothai with interesting stops along the route.

At Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, traditional Lanna architecture reflects Thailand’s cultural heritage.

The visit to Si Satchanalai Historical Park offers a quieter and less crowded experience, where ancient ruins are surrounded by natural scenery. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this historic city once served as an important cultural and political center of the Sukhothai Kingdom and is admired for its Khmer-style ruins and architectural influences reflecting different periods of Thai history.

Arrival in Sukhothai marks a transition into Thailand’s early history.

Overnight in Sukhothai.

Exploring Sukhothai Historical Park by bicycle allows for a relaxed and enjoyable pace while discovering the rich heritage of the former Sukhothai Kingdom. Along the route, visit Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat, admired for its impressive Khmer-style prang and unique blend of Mahayana Buddhist and Khmer architectural influences. The journey also includes Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo with its remarkable collection of 32 distinct chedis, as well as the ancient Thuriang Kilns, where traditional celadon ceramics were produced from the 13th century onward.

The wide-open landscape, combined with well-preserved temples and Buddha statues, creates a peaceful setting. Cycling makes it easy to move between sites while fully appreciating the surroundings.

Return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Overnight in Sukhothai.

The journey continues to Ayutthaya, once the powerful capital of the Kingdom of Siam. Founded more than 400 years ago, this former royal city is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its impressive temple ruins, historical significance, and rich cultural legacy.

A hands-on amulet-making activity offers a unique cultural experience, providing insight into Thai beliefs while creating a personal souvenir.

The rest of the day remains relaxed after check-in.

Overnight in Ayutthaya.

Cycling through Ayutthaya Historical Park reveals an impressive 289-hectare complex featuring more than 95 historical monuments, including ancient temples, royal palaces, and iconic Khmer-style prangs dating from the 14th to 18th centuries. Highlights along the route include Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Chaiwatthanaram, Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Lokayasutha, and Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, all reflecting the grandeur and prosperity of the former Ayutthaya Kingdom.

The combination of open space, cultural significance, and scenic views creates a rewarding and easy-to-enjoy experience.

Overnight in Ayutthaya.

Travel continues to Kanchanaburi, a destination renowned for its unspoiled natural scenery, beautiful waterfalls, and important World War II historical sites. The region is especially famous for the Bridge over the River Kwai and the Death Railway, which remain powerful reminders of wartime history amid the area’s peaceful riverside landscapes.

A boat ride along the River Kwai leads to your resort, creating a relaxing and scenic arrival. The peaceful surroundings offer a welcome contrast to earlier city experiences.

Overnight in Kanchanaburi.

The day begins with a visit to Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum, where history is presented in a meaningful and accessible way. This moving memorial commemorates the construction of the infamous Death Railway (Burma–Thailand Railway) during World War II and honors the sacrifice of thousands of prisoners of war and forced laborers who endured extremely harsh conditions while building the railway.

Later, the focus shifts to nature at Erawan Waterfall, a spectacular seven-tiered waterfall stretching over 1,500 meters through lush forest landscapes. Famous for its striking turquoise pools and refreshing natural setting, the waterfall descends from an elevation of approximately 2,100 meters, creating one of Thailand’s most beautiful natural attractions.

Return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Overnight in Kanchanaburi.

A transfer to Bangkok marks the final stage of the journey. As Thailand’s vibrant metropolis, Bangkok blends modern skyscrapers, lively street markets, riverside temples, and an energetic atmosphere, offering a dynamic contrast to the quieter cultural and natural destinations visited earlier in the trip.

On the way, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market offers a lively and colorful experience of canal-side trading.

In Bangkok, the Grand Palace, originally built in 1782 during the reign of King Rama I, showcases Thailand’s royal heritage through its magnificent architecture and intricate golden details. The experience continues at Wat Pho, where a relaxing traditional foot massage provides a comfortable and enjoyable finish to the day.

Overnight in Bangkok.

After breakfast, enjoy free time until your transfer to the airport for departure.

The journey concludes with a balanced mix of culture, fun experiences, and relaxation, making it both enjoyable and worthwhile.

Vietnam was a wonderful experience for both of us. Vietnamtour.co.za, and especially our travel expert Vanessa Dao, took care of the arrangements in a calm and professional way, which made the journey feel very manageable from the start. We liked how clear the communication was and how smoothly everything fell into place once we arrived.

The guides were pleasant, the pace suited us well and we always felt comfortable. It was the kind of holiday where we could simply enjoy ourselves without worrying about what came next. A memorable and very enjoyable trip.

We recently returned from our holiday in Vietnam and we are still talking about it every day. What stood out the most for us was how calm and effortless the entire trip felt. We are not fast travellers, so we really appreciated the clear schedules and the guidance we received at each stop.

One of the moments we enjoyed most was sitting at a small café in Hoi An, watching the lanterns come on while our guide showed us photos of his family. It was small things like that that made the whole trip feel warm and genuine. The accommodations were comfortable, the tours were organised with care and we always felt safe and relaxed.

The team at vietnamtour.co.za checked in now and then just to make sure we were happy, which we found very thoughtful. Vietnam surprised us in many wonderful ways and we left feeling rested and inspired. Thank you for a memorable experience.

My wife and I had a 12 day tour of Vietnam starting in Hanoi then flying to Hoi an and finally to Ho Chi Minh city. Vanessa Dao helped us choose the itinerary. and ensured that everything went smoothly. We usually plan our own trips but being in such a foreign environment decided to go with a tour operator and found it to be a more relaxed experience having free days interspersed between organised excursions. Vanessa was always available for good advice should we need this.
