COME APRIL, AND VIETNAM’S MEKONG DELTA SPARKLES IN PINK

April is the time that pink shower trees bloom in the Mekong Delta provinces like An Giang and Dong Thap.

A pink shower tree blooms on the end of a pond amidst lush green rice fields in An Giang Province.

The pink shower tree (Cassia bakeriana), native to Southeast Asia, is usually planted for its beauty. It also offers locals some shade.

The early summer sunshine of April, when the seasonal rains first appear, is when the pink shower trees shed their leaves and the flowers bloom in profusion.

Women wearing the Vietnamese traditional dress, ao dai, pose for a picture under flowering pink shower trees in Cao Lanh District, Dong Thap Province.

Visitors to An Giang and Dong Thap can see the pink shower trees in bloom along roads, fields and rivers and in house gardens.

Also in Phu Tan District, a beautiful scene with a small bridge over a stream on the banks of which stands a tree with its distinct pink canopy.
