Our guide and driver will meet you from the airport and take you to the bustling market of Nyaung U in Old Bagan. Located in the northeastern part of Bagan, Nyaung U Market is Nyaung U Village’s local market. Here locals gather every day to buy and sell everything from fresh produce and meats to flowers and pottery. Afterwards, move onto to Golden Shwezigon Pagoda to learn more about the local Buddhism.
Proceed to the Bagan plains to marvel at the numerous temples and stupas dotted over the plain. On the way, stop to visit Ananda Temple - one of the four main temples remaining in Bagan. Ananda temple is considered to be one of the most surviving masterpieces of the Mon architecture.
As the day comes to a close, pay a visit to Shwesandaw Pagoda for a breathtaking view over the region at sunset.
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and continue your excursion. You will pay a visit to some other famous monuments in Bagan including Dhammayangyi Temple, Htilominlo Temple.
Continue your trail to the rural village of Minnanthu near central Bagan to get an authentic experience of the rustic local life. The locals here live on houses built in traditional way of Myanmar countryside.
A visit to the village is a great way to escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern life as you have chance to take in the peaceful atmosphere of the region.
Strolling around the village, you could see some local monuments dated back to centuries ago like Tayokepyay Temple, Laymyatnar Temple, Nandaminnya and Payathonzu temple.

Today, you will explore Mt Popa with a drive through the planes. Mount Popa is a solitary peak topped by gold stupas. It is an extinct volcano which is believed to be home to the ‘nats’, ancient Burmese animist spirits. To reach the top, you need to remove shoes and climb the 777 steps to the summit. Along the way, you will pass by many shrines with local pilgrims.
Head back to the base of the shrine for a drive back to Bagan. Your stop is the village of Shwe Hlaing after around 20-30 minute drive.
Exploring the village, you are offered a great chance to witness first-hand the traditional production of palm toddy including the step of collecting the liquid to the step of creating the drinks and sugars.
Your traditional lunch will be served under the shade of toddy trees in the beautiful local setting. This is a great way to experience the unique lifestyle of the locals here.
In the afternoon, head back to Bagan.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked up and transferred to the Bagan jetty for a cruise upriver on a private river boat to Kyauk Gu U Min.
While floating on the waterways of Irrawaddy river, you will have a great chance to enjoy the stunning views of life on the water: the fishermen with their nets, local ferry boat moving around, the hidden riverside villages and small Bagan temples.
Upon reaching the village of Sae Lan, disembark for a short walk. Located by the Irrawaddy river, Sae Lan is a sleepy riverside villages where the local live on the farming and fishing. Their life seems to be simple but always happy.
Continue your boat trip to the east of the river towards Kyauk Gu U Min. Take a short walk to a beautiful temple featuring intricate stone carvings with religious figures and flowers on the door.
After the visit, back on board for a cruise back to Bagan. You will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
